YORK (AP) — A Maine town official is concerned about public beach access in York.

Board of Selectmen Chairman Ron Nowell said a recent Maine Supreme Judicial Court decision in Goose Rocks Beach case could create precedent for private property owners to gate off access to local beaches. Nowell said the best defense will be for the town to buy the beaches.

The Portsmouth Herald reported (http://bit.ly/1chFVfw) that Nowell will place this topic on the agenda for a meeting on Feb. 24.
