A lease between the city and the Auburn Suburban Little League over the development of new ball fields will be considered Tuesday by the City Council and is slated for action by the ball group later in the week. The 25-year lease, which would give most of the control of 20 acres of land off Garfield Road to the baseball association, obligates the city to contribute $120,000 for constructing the new fields. The fields — three will be constructed initially — will replace the league’s traditional home on land off Lewiston Junction Road, which has become surrounded by the highly developed Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airpark. The league’s fields are slated for a $5 million freight distribution center that has been proposed by United Parcel Service. The city has been negotiating for more than a year with the Army National Guard to arrange a land swap to find the organization a new home.
