BANGOR (AP) — A Bucksport woman has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $3 million from the bank where she worked for eight years.
Federal prosecutors said 62-year-old Lynn Bowden pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to embezzlement and tax charges.
Prosecutors say while working as a wealth management officer for Merrill Merchants Bank, which later became People’s United Bank in Bangor, she made 108 deposits and transfers of customer funds totaling almost $3 million into her personal accounts, which she then used for personal expenses.
She then failed to report the income of tax returns.
She faces up to 30 years in prison at sentencing, which has not been scheduled.
