JAY — At a Spruce Mountain High School assembly held on Feb. 4, Colonial Daughters Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution of Farmington presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to Ian Jewett, son of Eric and Barbara Jewett of Livermore Falls.

Presenting the award were Chapter Regent Julia Nouvertne and Chapter member Constance Hiltz of Farmington. Ian received a Good Citizen pin and a certificate authorized and signed by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution President General Lynn Forney Young and Maine State Society DAR State Regent Sandra Swallow.

The Colonial Daughters Chapter sponsors six area schools to recognize excellence in high school seniors. Each school’s faculty nominates several candidates for this honor each year. The person chosen to receive the honor must have demonstrated each of the qualities as defined by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution to an outstanding degree.

These qualities are dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Ian has taken most of the Honors and AP courses offered at Spruce Mountain high school and his cumulative GPA is 95.9. He is enrolled in a statistics class at the University of Maine at Augusta. Ian plans to major in secondary education with a concentration in history.

While his learning and grades have been a top priority throughout high school, his participation in Band and Drama have been very meaningful to him. He loves music and enjoys expressing himself through his music and the multiple roles he has portrayed in drama. He has been an actor in eight musical productions through the school/community theater programs

Ian was nominated to the National Honor Society as a 10th-grader, and is currently serving the Society as its treasurer. Last year, Ian was hired to tutor elementary students through the 21st Century Community Learning Center after-school program at Livermore Elementary School and currently serves as the student representative on the RSU 73 School Board.
