Lobster stew luncheon Feb. 28

FARMINGTON — The Fairbanks Union Church will hold a Lobster Stew Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28. It was postponed from last week due to snow.

The luncheon includes lobster stew, biscuit, pickles, cheese, pumpkin dessert and cream, and coffee/tea beverages. For delivery within five miles of the church, call the church at 778-4705. The donation for the luncheon is $10.

Free Loaves & Fishes lunch

FARMINGTON — A free Loaves & Fishes fish chowder lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Wednesday through March 26, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls Road.

All are welcome.

No luncheons are held on days that school is canceled.

FARMINGTON — A New England boiled dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, 110 Academy St.

Menu includes corned beef, vegetables, homemade bread, pies and beverage. Cost is $8.

Chili-tasting contest, benefit supper

FARMINGTON — A chili-tasting contest and benefit supper for Rev. Wally Webb, former pastor of Trinity, will be held Saturday, March 1, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 612 Farmington Falls Road.

Tasting and voting will run from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Supper will begin at 5:30. Supper is $7, tasting is $2.

Country Sunday set for March 2

JAY — Maine Country Music Association will present a Country Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. on March 2 at the Jay Community Center, 13 Community Drive.

Scheduled performers will include Ken and Jane Brooks, Dick Pelletier, Sue and Wendall Voter, Patrick Libby, Jared Alley, George Harnish, Gary Leet, Slim Andrews and The Crosby’s.

Refreshments will be available.

Chinese school starts March 4

FARMINGTON — Six weeks of Chinese school will be held on Tuesdays from March 4 through April 8 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the Washburn-Johnson Fine Art Gallery, 155 Front St. 

Each class will begin with study in the basics of Chinese, including conversational Chinese, vocabulary building and the written Chinese language.

Each class will cover various topics in Chinese culture, such as cooking, paper cutting, paper folding, tai chi, dance and art.

Instructors include Eddie Yuen, a native of China; Carole Lee, a native of Hong Kong; and Maria Logan, art teacher. Cost is $50 for six classes or $10 per individual class.
