1928 – 2014

LEWISTON — Edward Turgeon, 85, of Owens Street in Lewiston, died Sunday, Feb. 23, at Marshwood Center, with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, on Sept. 24, 1928, a son of the late Dominique and Lucia (LaCroix) Turgeon. The family moved to Maine when he was a young boy.

Edward proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a platoon guide, front line machine gun operator and functioned as a sniper when called upon by his battalion. He received two Purple Hearts, with recognition for valor. Although he was very proud of his service, he did not talk about it often.

He was a well known, self-employed contractor, building many local houses. He took great pride in his work. Edward married the love of his life, Barbara Collupy, on May 29, 1954, and together they raised their five children.

He was a member of Holy Family Church and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His gentle humor and kindness will be greatly missed.
