AUBURN — In honor of Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week, March 3-9, 3,000 orange flags will be on display on the banking of the Auburn Mall, Center Street side, to publicly recognize the 3,000 people in the state who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The MS Flags of Hope campaign is a symbolic gesture to raise awareness and understanding of multiple sclerosis and the unpredictable challenges that confront people whose lives are affected by the disease.

As the flags are moved by the wind, we are reminded that movement is not something a person with MS can take for granted. MS interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body, and can stop people from moving forward in their lives. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t.

Modest signage will be displayed along with the flags to inform the public of their meaning, and to ask people to join the movement to create a world free of multiple sclerosis.

On April 12, the Multiple Sclerosis Walk will take place at Lewiston High School along with several other locations throughout the state.

Lewiston/Auburn currently has two multiple sclerosis support groups which meet on a monthly basis. For more information on the support groups or the MS Walk, call 1800-FIGHT MS or visit www.msnewengland.org.
