RUMFORD — Mountain Valley High School has announced that Katherine Collette was selected as the DAR Good Citizen for the Class of 2014. Katie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Collette of Rumford.

The DAR candidate is selected by the principal and is a very coveted award. The selection is based on the following criteria: Dependability, which includes truthfulness, loyalty, punctuality; service, including cooperation, courtesy, consideration of others; leadership, which includes personality, self-control, ability to assume responsibility; and patriotism, including unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation.

At MVHS, Katie is a member of several organizations, including National Honor Society, Peer Helpers, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, soccer, alpine skiing and softball. She attended the Maine Youth Leadership conference. She is involved with the Holy Savior Youth Ministry, a ski instructor at Black Mountain of Maine and helps with GRAMPS.

Katie also works at the Rumford Community Home as a CNA. She has been accepted at Husson University, St. Joseph’s College, University of Maine at Fort Kent and University of Southern Maine in the nursing program.
