1930 – 2014

SOUTH PARIS — Dorothy Rose Allen, 83, of Oxford, died Friday, March 7, at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in North Turner on April 25, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Lucy Bixby. She attended Oxford schools and later graduated from Dixfield High School in 1948.

On Aug. 1, 1948, she married Clarence Allen. They lived in Minot, where they raised five children and one foster child. After retirement, they sold their farm in Minot and moved to Oxford, where she was able to renew old acquaintances and attend services at Oxford Congregational Church. She and Clarence also spent time traveling to relatives and friends around the country.

After Clarence’s death in 2006, she continued to live in their Oxford home until February of this year.

Dot enjoyed reading and gardening, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to walk, and always with a wonderful smile on her face. Over the years, she knitted hundreds of pairs of mittens for children, which she donated to local organizations.

She is survived by her children, Andrew Allen and wife, Barbara, of Lewiston, Stanley Allen and wife, Anne, of Minot, June Bretzius and husband, Tom, of Bradenton, Fla., Clarence Allen Jr. and wife, Carol, of South Paris and foster daughter, Judy Mullen of South Paris; 12 grandchildren; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; a son, Bertram; and all of her siblings, Levi, Ida, Roy, Jesse, Lottie, Richard, Pearl, Alton and Charles.
