1981 – 2014

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Katie L. Traynor, 32, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away on Tuesday, March 4.

She was born in Lewiston on Aug. 10, 1981, a daughter of Timothy and Doreen (Donohue) Traynor. She grew up in Lewiston and attended local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School, Class of 1999. She lettered in varsity cheering and softball for the Lewiston High School Blue Devils, and was a member of DECA.

Katie went on to study nursing at the University of Southern Maine and graduated with a Bachelor of science degree in nursing in 2003. She was a member of the USM Student Activities Committee. She most recently worked at Mercy Hospital in Portland as a charge nurse in the special care unit.

She was a volunteer for Partners For World Health and Camp Sunshine. For many years, Katie was a regular donor of blood and plasma for the American Red Cross. She was sweet, compassionate, conscientious and exacting in her excellent nursing care to the community.

Katie loved living in her home on the beach. She loved taking in the sunrises and sunsets and collecting shells. She found great happiness exploring the coast of Maine and was proud of her accomplishment of photographing all of the lighthouses in the state. She also was able to cross skydiving off her “bucket list.”

Katie was an avid gardener and loved bird watching. She was also a great cook and enjoyed baking. She was known to some as a “Domestic Goddess.” She valued the time spent with her family, along with her Nana, Papa and Meemaw.

She will be sadly missed by her parents, Timothy and Doreen Traynor of Harpswell; and her sisters, Erica and her fiancé, Chad Ouellette, of Lyman, Alison of New York City and Haleigh of Boston; as well as her beloved Himalayan cat, Raja. She is also survived by her grandparents, Leyon and Constance Traynor of Lewiston and Marie Donohue of Venice, Fla. Katie leaves behind many, many close and dear friends, especially Nick Greer; and many aunts, uncles and cousins whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her grandfather, Eugene J.R. Donohue.

She was a loving and devoted daughter, always taking time in her busy work schedule to attend any family event. Her three sisters were her best friends and she was the epitome of what every big sister should be.
