AUGUSTA (AP) — An Augusta woman is facing charges after her 4-year-old daughter wandered away from home during a snowstorm and walked to a convenience store looking for ice cream.
Police Lt. Christopher Massey said the girl dressed in her winter gear and walked about a quarter of a mile at about 6 p.m. Wednesday with snow on the ground and a snow-rain mix falling.
A clerk at the Circle K noticed the girl was alone, gave her a Slush Puppy, and called police.
Massey told the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1dYCco7 ) that due to the length of time the child was gone, as well as the weather, the mother was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
He said the mother was busy and didn’t notice the child missing.
No names were released.
