The Geneseo Knights punched their ticket into the NCAA Division III Frozen Four with a pair of 3-2 victories against the Nichols College Bison and the Norwich Cadets in the opening and quarterfinal rounds, respectively.

They earned an at-large bid into the tournament after falling to the the Oswego State Lakers in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship game, 7-6.

The Knights had a very good year in the SUNYAC, going 14-2-0 against conference opponents this year. Their overall record currently sits at 23-6-0.

They opened the year with a pair of victories over Morrisville before losing their first game of the year on Nov. 8 to Plattsburgh. After losing to Adrian 5-1 on Nov. 19, they went on a stretch of winning six games in a row, beginning Nov. 22 with a 7-4 victory over fellow Frozen Four participant Oswego State. In that game against the Lakers, Lewiston native Connor Anthoine scored his first career collegiate goal.

Coach Chris Schultz said losing to Adrian was the turning point of the season and the players came together as team.

Geneseo’s next loss came Jan. 11 against Elmira, but they then went on an 11-2 stretch through the SUNYAC conference championship.

They have three players with 30 or more points, including Tyler Brickler, who leads the team with 32. Zachary Vit and Justin Scharfe each have 30 points. Nick Horrigan has a 14-1-0 record in goal with a 2.19 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage.
