TURNER/HARTFORD — The Bear Pond Improvement Association has announced the creation of two $500 scholarships.

Graduating seniors from Turner and Hartford who are pursuing post- secondary studies related to environmental sciences and/or natural resources management are eligible to apply for this award no later than May 1. Scholarship winners will be announced at the close of the school year with one student who meets the outlined criteria selected from each community.

Students must be pursuing post-secondary education on a full-time basis (minimum 12 credits per semester) in the upcoming year and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average during the first semester of post-secondary study. The $500 award will be presented at the beginning of second semester of the student’s freshman year.

Students interested in applying need to complete the BPIA Scholarship application form and include a one-page essay. Applications are available in the guidance offices at Buckfield Junior/Senior High School and Leavitt Area High School or by contacting BPIA President Terry Gordon at 207-224-7812 or via email at tnt2gordon@yahoo.com.

The required essay will explain why the student should be selected and include the course of study. This essay and application need to include the signature of support from the student’s guidance counselor. Mail completed application forms and letters to Terry Gordon, 65 Berry Road, Turner, ME 04282 no later than May 1.
