LEWISTON — The city will get a $5,000 boost from the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber President Chip Morrison announced the chamber would make the payment in lieu of taxes.

“The chamber uses municipal services, and board members wanted to contribute to the cost of the services our organization benefits from,” Morrison said in a written statement. “Although the chamber is tax-exempt, the board is very community-minded and recognizes the challenges of municipal budgets.”

Mayor Robert Macdonald welcomed the news.

“We greatly appreciate the chamber’s payment in lieu of taxes,” Macdonald said in a written statement. “The FY15 budget process is going to be a tough one, and contributions such as this one are a pleasant surprise and certainly very welcome.”

The chamber’s offices are at 415 Lisbon St. It’s a nonprofit organization that promotes a positive business environment in the Androscoggin County region.
