DIXFIELD — Residents will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Dirigo High School for the annual town meeting. Spending recommendations from the Board of Selectmen and the Budget Committee will be presented.

After last year’s town meeting, a straw poll indicated the majority of residents preferred to vote on the budget at the polls after the town meeting. At the March 17 board meeting, it was decided to have the budget vote at the polls instead of by a show of hands at the town meeting.

As a result, interim Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky said the annual town meeting is being held a month earlier than usual. Residents will choose whether they wish to vote on the budget recommendations of the selectmen or the Budget Committee.

“They also have the chance to submit their own recommendation for each item, as long as it doesn’t exceed what the board or the Budget Committee submitted,” Skibitsky said.
