1922 – 2014

AUBURN — Reinette L. Taylor of Norway died April 13 at Clover Health Manor, where she had resided for the past two years. She was 92.

She was born in Biddeford on March 1, 1922, to Jerome and Delia St. Ours and resided in Biddeford until moving to Norway in 2007 to be closer to her daughter. Reinette was educated in Biddeford schools and had worked at Lee’s Bakery, the Nutshell Restaurant and the Saco Tannery before her retirement.

Reinette married Paul Taylor on June 1, 1946, and they made a wonderful life for themselves. They had two children, Roger Taylor, who was killed in a motorcycle accident at age 24, and Linda Hoisington, who resides in South Paris.

A member of St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford for most of her life, she enjoyed serving as a Eucharist minister for many years. Her faith in God was always very strong and played a major part in her life.

Reinette and Paul enjoyed planting large vegetable gardens and giving away the fruit of their labor. She canned enough vegetables to last through winter. Reinette was in a bowling league at Vacationland for many years, and she also loved to crochet, do crossword puzzles and take walks. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and was an excellent cook and baker.

In December, she would spend days baking hundreds of Christmas cookies, which she and her daughter would later package and give to friends and relatives. She so enjoyed this holiday ritual. Reinette was happiest when surrounded by family and was especially proud of her two grandchildren, Jeffrey Taylor and Jennifer Lafrance. She beamed when reminiscing about the tradition of Christmas Eve Mass at St. Joseph’s Church and later gift opening at their Hooper Street home, which was always fully decorated.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Linda Hoisington and her husband, David, of South Paris; her grandson, Jeffrey Taylor and his wife, Tona, of Seattle, Wash.; her granddaughter, Jennifer Lafrance and her husband, Thomas, of Biddeford; her great-grandsons, Christian Lafrance, Jeffrey Lafrance, Brady Taylor and Reid Taylor; along with several nieces and nephews.

Reinette was predeceased by her husband, Paul E. Taylor; her son, Roger P. Taylor; her sisters, Pauline Godard and Laurette Turgeon; and brothers, Urbain, Roland, Lionel and Donald St. Ours.

Her passing will forever leave a void in the lives of those who loved her; her ready smile and infectious laughter dearly missed. Her daughter feels that she has lost her best friend.

The family wants to extend special thanks to the Galway staff at Clover Health Manor and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for their kindness, patience and affection shown while caring for Reinette.
