RUMFORD — Rumford Elementary School will hold a special PTO informational meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, and all parents and interested parties are invited.
The special presentation for parents will be given by Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services (SAPARS) of Oxford County (formerly known as REACH). They have been providing child safety presentations in schools throughout the county for many years.
SAPARS recognizes that adults are responsible for children’s safety, but giving children the safety information has been found to be helpful.
The goal is to reduce the incidence of sexual abuse and harassment by teaching children how to recognize and deal with potentially dangerous situations. The educator uses age and developmentally appropriate language and content.
Parents who have questions about the education programs may call Janet Dillingham at 743-9777.
There will be a special book fair preceding the presentation.
Advocates of SAPARS are available 24 hours a day to speak to men, women and children who have been affected by any sort of sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
All services provided by SAPARS are free and confidential for residents of Oxford, Androscoggin and Franklin counties. Call 1-800-871-7741.
