1926 – 2014

LEWISTON — June M. Smith, 88, of Norway, died Monday, April 28, at d’Youville Pavilion.

She was born in South Paris on March 10, 1926, the daughter of Stanley and Vivien Elwell Sturtevant. She grew up on Streaked Mountain and attended South Paris schools.

June worked at Paris Manufacturing Co., where she met Becky’s father, Tom Gay; they divorced in 1950. She married Wendell Smith in 1956, and was a homemaker for the rest of her life.

She enjoyed old-fashioned dances, bird-watching, flowers and gardening. She loved the Red Sox and the Celtics.

June is survived by her children, Rebecca Barlow of Norway, Wendy Lewis of Sheridan, Ill., Wanda Smith of Bowdoin, Davy Smith of Oxford, Heidi Roy of Bryant Pond and Florida and Holly Ellingwood of South Paris; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Stoney, in 1958; two brothers, Glen and Stanley; and a sister, Muriel Lord.
