LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a day drop-in center, has announced its schedule of programs for May.

The center will start off the month on Thursday, May 1, with May Day programs. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a class on making paper flowers. In the afternoon participants will walk around town and Kennedy Park and give away single stems of real flowers to wish people a happy spring.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, May 11, the center will host the annual special event for those who find Mother’s Day to be difficult. It is a time of sharing and reflection.

The monthly soup day will be on Thursday, May 15, this time with dumplings. A homemade salad dressing class is planned for Tuesday, May 13, and a Friendship bread baking class on Tuesday, May 20. The cooking classes are all scheduled for 10 a.m.

Several nurturing events will continue. Heather Flanders will host a “Be Healthy, Be Strong” series each Monday at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoons each week are dedicated to nurturing the “Inner Spirit” through experiences like mandala-making, spiritual conversation or guided meditation.

Betsy Ware will return at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, offering Reiki therapy. Sign up for 10 minutes with Ware.

The Writing Workshop with Pat Gardiner will continue to meet at 10 a.m. Mondays. The Playing with Poetry class, offered by Kathryn Tracy, is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20. It will include experiencing poems through reading and writing.

Sue will lead scrapbooking classes on Wednesday, May 7, and Dot will teach painting on Wednesday, May 14. Other regular morning events are Bingo on Tuesday, May 27, the Art Van on Wednesday, May 28, the monthly clothing give-away, also  on May 28, and the May birthday party the same day. All begin at 10 a.m.

Support for family caregivers is available at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and a weekly Al-Anon group, the only one in Lewiston, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The BLT group for Bisexual, Lesbian and Transgendered women and their friends or family will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 29. 

The center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Fridays it closes at noon. The full calendar of events is posted on the website: www.wisdomswomen.org.

All women are welcome, programs are offered free and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily and the center has a shower. It is continually in need of donations of hygiene items.
