1953 – 2014

PRESQUE ISLE — Elverine “Ellie” Stephens Thomas, 61, of Oxford and Woodland, died Monday, May 5, in Presque Isle, following a brief illness.

She was born in Fond du Lac, Wis., on Feb. 13, 1953, a daughter of the late Gene and Loretta (Kelley) Stephens. She was a graduate of Mount View High School and was employed as a manager at First Technology in Caribou for a number of years.

Ellie was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where she was a member of the American Baptist Women’s group and the Robinson Mission Circle, and taught Sunday school. Ellie was very involved with mission work and made numerous mission trips to countries all over the world. She was a volunteer at Cary Medical Center, where she knitted many baby blankets for the nursery and operation Christmas Child.

Ellie married Robert Thomas on June 7, 1997.

In addition to her husband of Woodland, survivors include her stepmother, Lynne Stephens, of Wales; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Kyra Flaherty of Sabattus; her stepchildren, Robert Thomas II and wife, Jackie, of Oakgrove, Mo., and Deborah Walo and husband, Robert, of Oxford; one sister, Jackie Garey and husband, Mike, of Mechanic Falls; two brothers, David Stephens and wife, Kathryn, of Oxford and Danny Stephens of Oregon; one stepsister, Michelle Banville and husband, John II, of Wales; her grandchildren, Molly Flaherty, Meredith, Audrey, Robert II and John Thomas, Maeve and Taylor Wood and Eileen Walo; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
