STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society will sponsor a walk-a-thon at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10. The starting lineup will be at the Stratton Elementary School parking lot going along School Street and turning around at the site of the Old Dump two miles away and returning to the school parking lot.

This will be a fun and fit activity for all ages. Drinks and snacks will be provided at each mile marker along the way.

The group’s goal this year is to tar the museum driveway, which accumulates more grass each year. Members have to mow the driveway and be careful not to break windows from rocks hurling from the mower.

Grants have been written over the years with no success. A Driveway Account will be started from the proceeds at the Skowhegan Savings Bank. It may take a few years and many fundraisers but members vow to “Get it Done.”

Pledge sheets can be picked up at Pine’s Market, Northland Cash, Fotter’s Market and Flagstaff Fuel. They need to be turned in at the walk-a-thon.

For the safety of smaller participants, we ask no running or jogging, only walking.
