LEWISTON — An Alzheimer’s Workshop, taught by Stephanie Truman, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Royal Oak Room, Ironhorse Court, 1 Bates St.

Participants will uncover myths, values and attitudes about aging and develop a more in-depth understanding of typical changes. They will learn to become familiar with the major mental health issues affecting seniors; discuss the 5 D’s (delirium, depression, dementia, delusional disorder and drugs); recognize signs, symptoms, indicators of serious mental illness and/or other health problems; identify the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s Disease; acquire practical tools for helping residential care staff effectively deal with difficult behaviors and diffuse challenging situations; as well as discuss ways to cultivate an environment that promotes successful aging.

Truman has 21 years experience in nursing with certification in critical care and clinical experience.
