SPRINGVALE (AP) — A Sanford man charged with injuring his twin 2-month-old children has been ordered held on $25,000 cash bail.
Anthony Carpinelli made his first court appearance Wednesday via video from the York County Jail where he has been held since his arrest Monday on charges including aggravated assault on a child. If he makes bail, he is allowed no contact with the children or their mother.
The 21-year-old Carpinelli was not required to enter a plea. His lawyer said Carpinelli is “distraught.”
The twins — a girl and a boy — were brought to Southern Maine Health Care’s emergency department on Friday before being transferred to Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.
Authorities say the injuries are consistent with being struck and shaken. They have both been released from the hospital.
