RUMFORD — A Dixfield woman suffered neck pain when her SUV was rear-ended on Veterans Street on Friday morning, Rumford police said.

Cathy Dunham, 43, was treated at the scene by a Med-Care Ambulance crew.

The other driver, Gary Gagnon, 67, of Dixfield, said he wasn’t injured.

Rumford police Cpl. Donald Miller said Dunham was in her 2010 Kia Sportage stopped in traffic on a bridge over the railroad tracks at the NewPage paper mill. He said Gagnon’s 2013 Chevrolet Sonic struck the SUV at about 11:10 a.m.

“She stopped due to traffic, and Mr. Gagnon wasn’t paying attention and rear-ended her,” Miller said. “It was an honest mistake,” he said.

Gagnon was not charged, he said.

The Kia had damage to its exhaust system and Gagnon’s Chevy sedan was crushed in to the radiator and the driver’s side air bag deployed. Both vehicles were towed.

Rumford firefighters helped with traffic. Rumford police Sgt. James Bernard assisted Miller.
