SANFORD (AP) — The mother of twin infants in Sanford says the babies are getting better in the wake of their father’s arrest on charges he assaulted them.

WCSH-TV (http://on.wcsh6.com/1sCeAuX ) has reported that the twins’ mother says one baby was taken to an optometrist who determined the child is not blind. The station reported the other infant is also recovering.

Authorities have said the children’s injuries are consistent with being struck and shaken. Father Anthony Carpinelli made his first court appearance last week via video from York County Jail. He is charged with aggravated assault on a child and is allowed no contact with the children or their mother.

The children turned 2 months old on Sunday.
