When Nance, a veteran broadcaster and talented soprano, announced last July that she would be leaving her job as the host of MPBN Radio’s “Morning Classical Music” show to pursue a golden opportunity with a classical music powerhouse in the Windy City, tens of thousands of her fans in Maine were heartbroken. However, they recognized it was the professional opportunity of a lifetime for Nance, given her love of classical music and the chance to play a part in the world-renowned Lyric Opera of Chicago’s productions and live broadcasts.

But Nance’s announcement was not so much a “goodbye” as much as it was “until we meet again.” She developed a soft spot for the Franco Center and its unparalleled acoustics among Maine classical-music venues after her “Chansons de la vie et de l’amour” concert in May 2013, so much so that despite moving to Chicago, she planned to return to the Franco Center for an appearance that will put an emphatic exclamation mark on the 2013-14 season.

Hailed as the “Queen of Classical” by Maine’s Portland Press Herald, Nance enjoys an active schedule of broadcasts and performances around the world. Her diversity and range have led to sold-out performances of German lieder, French melodie, American art song, opera, operetta and musical theater repertoire. Her upcoming performances include an international tour of Poulenc’s one woman opera “La Voix Humaine” in 2015.

Join Nance along with tenor, John McVeigh, and pianist, Martin Perry, for “Music of the Night” – a concert which will feature music that celebrates everything from the stars to the lights of Broadway. Nance, McVeigh and Perry make a dynamic trio that entertain and inspire with opera arias, art songs and Broadway show tunes.

Tickets are $28; students and seniors, $25. Tickets can be purchased online at francocenter.org or at 207-689-2000. Doors open at 7 p.m.
