1919 – 2014

WEST PARIS — Sylvia S. Foster, 95, of West Paris, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, at Ledgeview Living Center.

She was born in Greenwood on April 19, 1919, the daughter of Peter and Saimi Niskinen Peiju. She graduated from Oxford High School and had been a homemaker all of her life. Various other jobs that she held include Paris Manufacturing, Pikes Hill Nursing Home, Wilner Wood Products and a boarding home for teachers during the school year. She and her husband owned and operated Oxford Dairy for many years.

Sylvia loved her family; her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She enjoyed Scrabble, crossword puzzles and playing cards. She also enjoyed bird-watching.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Johnson; her son, Norman Foster and his wife, Judi; granddaughters, Vanessa Barnard and Tanya Lowell and her husband, John; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Durant and her husband, Adam, Darcie Barnard, Amy Barnard and Thomas Lowell; great-great-grandchildren, Brandon Durant and Lauren Durant; two sisters, Aili Wuori and Lahja DiBello; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Stanley “Doc” Foster; and her sister, Helen Abbott.
