Lewiston Fire Department Acting Lt. Roger Roy frowns over the blackened ruins of a pickup truck that burned Wednesday morning. The truck parked at 740 Thompson St. was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived at the scene. Nobody was hurt in the blaze, but the pickup was destroyed. Lewiston fire Investigator Paul Ouellette said a mechanical malfunction was the cause. The truck owner had run out of gas the night before, Ouellette said. The owner added gas Wednesday morning and when he tried to start it, there were “popping sounds” from beneath the hood. The owner walked down the street to fetch his mechanic and when the two men arrived back at the scene, the truck was in flames.
