OLD ORCHARD BEACH (AP) — An out-of-court settlement has been reached in a wrongful termination lawsuit brought against Old Orchard Beach by its former town manager.

At a special town council meeting this week, councilors voted to give final approval to an agreement reached weeks ago at a mediation session.

Terms of the deal remain confidential.

Mark Pearson sued in April 2013, two months after he was fired.

The suit alleged Pearson was fired without cause and without due process, and his termination violated the town charter, state law and the Maine and U.S. constitutions. Pearson asked the town to reinstate him as town manager and award him damages, costs and attorney’s fees.

Councilor Malorie Pastor told the Journal Tribune (http://bit.ly/1jPpz21 ) the agreement saves money and does what’s best for the town.
