LIVERMORE FALLS — The annual History Night and Cruise-in will take place on Friday, May 23, in the downtown area. The focus this year will be the Androscoggin River and how it shaped the people and communities.
There will be antique vehicles, music, food, historical displays and more from 4 to 8 p.m. The Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group sponsors the event.
One of the highlights this year is a showing of “Down by the River’s Edge,” a documentary film by Susan Gagnon, playing from 4 to 6 p.m. in the makeshift Dreamland Theater at the Livermore Falls Town Office.
This documentary includes firsthand recordings of some of the paper makers and details of the the industrialists who lead the paper industry in this area, according to a release.
Among the attractions will be displays by the Livermore/Livermore Falls Historical Society at Knowlton Block, History of Riley at the Lamb Block, a History of the Museum House at the Maine Paper and Heritage Museum on Church Street, Washburn-Norlands Living History Center next to the Chuck Wagon Restaurant and an antique tractor display at Gateway Park.
The antique auto and motorcycle cruise-in will be along Main and Depot streets and the Lamb Block parking lot.
The Drive 4 UR Community event will be held from 3 to 8 p.m near the gazebo. It is hosted by Bailey Brothers Ford and benefits the Elaine Smith Children’s Reading Program at Treat Memorial Library.
There will be free hay wagon rides by Jason Gibson.
Performances will be given by Matt & the Barn Burners and the LES Flappers in the Lamb Block parking lot.
Barry Wood and Friends, the Moose Creek Cloggers and the Racket Factory will perform at the gazebo.
There will be children’s games and activities sponsored by U.S. Cellular, and a fundraising auction for the Autism Society of Maine by Team Izzy, both at the Geneva Hodgkins Memorial Park, formerly known as Union Park.
An indoor yard sale to benefit the Lions Club will also be held at the Knowlton Block.
There will also be a number of food vendors set up around the area.
