1920 – 2014

FARMINGTON — Loretta L. Desjardins, 93, a resident of Livermore Falls, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, at Edgewood Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family. She had been a resident there for the past five years.

She was born in Livermore Falls on July 21, 1920, a daughter to Valmore and Rose (Groleau) Duguay. Loretta attended school in Jay. On Nov. 11, 1946, she married her husband of 52 years, Charles Desjardins; he passed away on Jan. 29, 1998.

Loretta was a 1940 graduate of Pelletier Beauty School in Lewiston. Following graduation, she became the owner/operator of Loretta’s Beauty Shop, which she ran for over 25 years.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and especially making quilts and doll clothes. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and loved eating out and traveling.

Loretta is survived by her two sons, Gary Desjardins and his wife, Gail, of Livermore and David Desjardins and his companion, Sheila Scanlan, of Jay; her daughter, Joline Bourgoin and her husband, Leo, of Winslow; grandchildren, Nathan, Lyn, Benjamin Desjardins, Kasey Childs and Kristi Letourneau; great-grandchildren, Ella, Hugh, Travis and Dylan; brothers, Edmund Duguay and his wife, Pauline, of Livermore and Florida and Maurice Duguay and companion, Aline Fournier, of Jay; sisters, Pauline Dumais of Lewiston, Bernice Bilodeau and her husband, Norman, of Livermore Falls and Florida and Lauri Ann Doiron of Jay and Florida; brothers-in-law, Clement Desjardins of Auburn and Jean Paul “Slim” Desjardins of California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Charles; her grandson, Travis Bourgoin; two brothers, Guy and Elie Duguay; and sisters, Vivian Rea and Annette Finley.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the entire staff of Edgewood for the exceptional care and compassion they gave to Loretta.
