1919 – 2014

RUMFORD — Phyllis Mae Cook, 94, a former resident of Livermore Falls, died Sunday, May 18, at Rumford Community Home surrounded by her loving family. She had been a resident there for the past several years.

She was born in Livermore Falls on Oct. 21, 1919, the daughter of Linton and Mazie (Nichols) White. Phyllis was a 1938 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. During her high school years, she was on the 1936 state champion basketball team.

In 1938, she married Erwin Cook in Livermore Falls. Together, they had three children. Phyllis worked for Norwalk Shoe and Bass Shoe. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox and visiting with family and friends.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Reginald Cook and his wife, Sandra, of Jay; her stepdaughter, Betty Golia, of Rangeley and Florida; brothers, Linwood White and his wife, Jean, of Orono and Florida and Delance White and his wife, Terry, of Jay; daughter-in-law, Barbara Cook, of Jay; her sister, Velcena Robbins, of Sanford; eight grandchildren, Patti Foss of Wilton, Shari Maxwell of Leeds, Kathy Thompson of Wilton, Teri Poulin of Hartford, Christine LaPointe of Livermore Falls, Tony True of Wiscasset, Robbie Cook of Jay and Lance True of Casco; 21 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Alan “Skeeter” Cook; stepson, William Cook; daughter, Mary Ellen True; sisters, Pearl Quirrion, Janice Durgin and Faye Ridley; and brothers, Lester, Leon and Reginald White.

Her family would like to thank Sue Ellen and the staff at Rumford Community Home for the wonderful care given to Phyllis.
