AUGUSTA, Maine — A Winthrop woman is facing a pair of felony charges in connection with a head-on collision that claimed the life of a Mount Vernon woman in March.
Alyssa Marcellino, 23, was indicted by a grand jury Friday on charges of operating after suspension causing death of a person and operating after suspension causing serious injury, Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said Tuesday.
Marcellino was taken into custody on Monday, according to Maloney.
On the morning of March 6, Marcellino was heading east on Route 202 when her SUV apparently crossed the center line and struck a Hyundai driven by Gene Potter, 70, of Mount Vernon.
Potter’s passenger, Joan Fortier, 67, of Mount Vernon, died at the scene.
Maloney said Marcellino has never possessed a driver’s license, and she was also involved in a March 30 accident in Sidney, the district attorney said.
“That makes her extremely dangerous to the public,” Maloney said.
Marcellino faces up to 10 years behind bars on each felony charge. She is being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
Marcellino is scheduled to make her first court appearance at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Waterville.
