1955 – 2014

AUBURN — Elaine A. Poirier, 59, of Lewiston, died Tuesday morning, May 20, at the Androscoggin Hospice House surrounded by her loving family, following a long illness.

She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 20, 1955, a daughter of the late Robert A. and Charlotte (Larrivee) Laliberte, and had been a resident of this community all of her life. She was educated in Lewiston schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1973.

Elaine married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Poirier, on June 23, 1973, whom she cherished and adored. Together, they were blessed by the birth of two sons; their first born, Gregg, in 1977, then their second son, Jay, in 1979.

Elaine worked at Russell Park Rehab and Living Center for over 31 years in many capacities. These residents were her extended family whom she loved very dearly.

She had a contagious laugh and a warm smile, always reaching out to give a needed hug. She had a great sense of humor and could light up a room with her presence. She had many interests, but was happiest in her kitchen cooking for her family and friends. Bob and Elaine took many trips, but her love was sitting on the back of her boat, feet in the water, enjoying what life had to offer.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 41 years, Robert Poirier, of Lewiston; her sons, Gregg and Jay Poirier, both of Lewiston; a brother, Joseph Laliberte and his wife, Patsy; and a nephew, Ricky Gadway, of Fairfield.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Phyllis; and a very special niece, Jolyne.

The family wishes to thank her sister-in-law, Linda Poirier, and her sister, Eileen Gauthier, who provided extraordinary assistance for Elaine during her time of need.
