1934 – 2014

AUBURN — Bertrand Noel Desrochers, 79, of Lewiston, died Wednesday, May 21, at Androscoggin Hospice House with his family by his side.

Born in Lewiston on Dec. 25, 1934, a son of the late Adalbert and Regina Desjardins Desrochers, he graduated from St. Dominic High School in the Class of 1952, and later took college-level classes in bookkeeping and accounting. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and worked as office manager and controller at Enterprise Foundry for 37 years, prior to his retirement.

He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Cross Church and served as organist at St. Patrick’s Church for over 10 years. He also played with Bob Bedard’s Band and later with the Al Reali Band of Portland.

He enjoyed family gatherings, reading, playing cards and watching sports on TV, but most of all loved music and playing piano with his sister, Jeannine.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 51 years, the former Juliette “Judy” Gagnon, of Lewiston, whom he married June 29, 1963; his daughters, Michelle Rice Sarma and husband, Dr. Umesh Sarma, MD, of Auburn and Suzanne Albright and husband, David, of Turner; a son, David Desrochers, of Turner; and his sisters, Gilberte Beaule and husband, Gerard, of Lewiston, Rita Desrochers of Auburn and Jeannine Bergeron of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Reginald Desrochers and his wife, Charlotte; a nephew, Charles Desrochers; and beloved cousin, Jacqueline Raymond Mailhot.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Dublin Place at Clover Health Care; the staff, chaplain and volunteers at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn; and especially all the nurses in the Infusion Center at 12 High St., Lewiston, and David Caldwell, MD, and his staff including, but not limited to, Denise, Mary Ann, Betty, Christine and Kim, for their compassionate care and kindness at a very difficult time in our lives.
