1939 – 2014

WILTON — Bertrand “Bert” Rodger Heutz, 75, of East Wilton, died early Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lewiston, Jan. 29, 1939, a son of Joffre and Helene (Chasse) Heutz and received his education in Lewiston schools. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and on May 30, 1964, married Shirley Searles in Lewiston.

He was employed as a ground wood operator at International Paper Company in Jay for 34 years retiring in 2001. Mr. Heutz and his wife wintered in Polk City, Fla., for many years where he was active in the local food bank and sold programs at Detroit Tigers spring training baseball games. He was a Red Sox and Patriots fan and watched NASCAR races on television if there wasn’t a baseball game to watch.

He enjoyed bowling and belonged to several different leagues. He loved playing cards, fishing, mountain biking and kayaking with his wife as well as traveling to different locations in the United States including Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley of East Wilton; a son, Jeff of Auburndale, Fla.; daughter, Donna Diehl of New Albany, In; a brother, Roger of Auburn; sisters, Theresa Pepin, Marlene Whitten, and Debbie Cummings, all of Lewiston; grandchildren, Devan Heutz, Brandy Spencer, and Tareck Ward; a great-grandson, Braeden Heutz; and several nieces and nephews.
