Left-wing legislative officials have been giving welfare program benefits to the wrong people for years. Democrats don’t understand that Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are not a way of life; they are there to help get people back on their feet.

All Gov. Paul LePage is doing is cracking down on the out-of-control welfare system. Some people are abusing TANF and SNAP to buy cigarettes, beer and tattoos, but children are going to school hungry. That is child abuse. When I was a kid, I had breakfast before going to school. Now, kids go to school to eat breakfast (thanks to the school system).

LePage is cracking down to stop welfare recipients from abusing the system, while helping the veterans and, most of all, the children.

Letter writers such as Anthony Esposito, Britta Clark and Robert Tremaine are out of touch with reality when calling LePage a bully and mean-spirited.

The left-wing liberals in the Legislature are the problem in Augusta. Maine needs a big change to fix the problem.
