LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen have authorized the use of all-terrain vehicles on a section of Foundry Road.
This will allow ATV riders to continue to travel on the Whistle-Stop Trail that runs from West Farmington to Bridge Street in Livermore Falls. The trail is about 17 miles long.
ATVs are not allowed to go on the bike/walk path or on the Recreation Field on Foundry Road, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said during the May 20 selectmen meeting. ATVs are allowed by law to travel 500 feet on a public way to connect to the next trail, she said.
ATVs previously were banned from using the road.
The original Whistle-Stop Trail was 14 miles from French Falls Lane in Jay to West Farmington. The path was expanded in February 2013 when owners of the Otis Falls Mill property allowed the trail to cross the mill property in Jay to Bridge Street in Livermore Falls.
