PARIS — The Oxford County Democrats held a forum for the contenders for the Democratic nomination in Congressional District 2 on May 22 at the Town Office Meeting Room in South Paris. Sens. Troy Jackson of Allagash and Emily Cain of Orono fielded questions from an audience of more than 50, in addition to offering opening and closing statements.

House District candidate Bob Kirchherr of South Paris moderated the forum and NPCTV filmed the event to be aired prior to the June 10 Primary Election.

Prior to the forum, the Oxford County Democrats held an informal social hour with Cain and Jackson in attendance at the South Paris Democratic Office, 21 Market Square. Other candidates in attendance included State Senate candidates Sen. John Patrick of Rumford, District 18, Rose Rogers-Wells of Brownfield, District 19, House candidates Callie Pecunies of Albany Township, District 117, Dennise Whitley of Norway, District 71, Bob Kirchherr of South Paris, District 73, Register of Deeds Pat Shearman of Norway and County Treasurer Roy Gedat. Rep. Terry Hayes, running for county commissioner, attended the forum.

A ribbon cutting was held with both Congressional candidates doing the honors. The office is one of three in Oxford County. Other offices are at 171 Main St., Bethel, and 1125 Route 2, Rumford. Opening events will be held in June for the Bethel and Rumford offices.

Upcoming events include the Maine Democratic Party Convention on May Friday and Saturday, 30 and 31, and a Recognition Dinner in honor of Rep. Sheryl Briggs at the Legion Hall in Dixfield on Thursday, June 19.
