Opal Smith was given the Vienna Bicentennial Cane on her 90th birthday. Carole O’Connell of the Vienna Historical Society made the presentation. Smith, born May 6, 1924, to Leroy and Mabel Smith in Mt. Vernon, is the oldest resident of Vienna and has lived there with great niece and husband, Sheila and Louis Emery, for 15 years. Opal weighed only three pounds at birth and grew up on the family farm.
