PARIS —  Container plantings may be the only flowers some residences have space for or may be the finishing touch on larger properties. In either case, plant combinations are key to a lasting design.

The McLaughlin Garden and Homestead will host its annual container class on Thursday, June 5, at Winslow Farm, Route 26, Falmouth. The location was chosen because of the huge selection of plants available there, including some unusual ones not readily available locally. Flowers, herbs and vegetables are all appropriate choices depending on the gardener’s desires.

The class is appropriate for beginners and experienced gardeners. The basics of color and texture will be covered but the majority of the time will be spent selecting plants and placing them into an attractive design. Potting soil and refreshments will be provided. Attendees should bring their own containers or plan to buy one there.

Participants may meet at the farm at 5:30 p.m. or may choose to carpool from the McLaughlin Garden Gate at 4:30. Call 743-8820 if planning to attend. The cost is free for McLaughlin members and $5 for nonmembers. Winslow Farm is donating a portion of the plant sales to the McLaughlin Garden.
