SABATTUS — The Spiritualist Church of Eternal Life will host the Maine State Spiritualist Association of Churches annual convention to be held Friday through Sunday, June 6 to 8.

The church, under the leadership of the Rev. Catherine Sabine, received an award for 2013 Outstanding Achievement from the National Spiritualists Association of Churches.

Spiritualism is the science, philosophy and religion of continuous life, based upon the demonstrated fact of communication, by means of mediumship, with those who live in the Spirit World. As Spiritualists members do believe in God, but they believe in God as Divine Energy (Infinite Intelligence) that is part of all that exists.

The Advent of Modern Spiritualism began March 31, 1848, in Hydesville, N.Y. The Maine State Spiritualist Association of Churches is a hierarchical organization that provides support to five churches and two camps in the state chartered within NSAC. President is the Rev. Graham Connolly. Three of the first camps in the United States were established here. The first Spiritualist church in Bangor was founded Sept. 8, 1957.

The board of directors of the Spiritualist Church of Eternal Life and MSSAC have an exciting and uplifting weekend planned, beginning with a “Drawing in Spirit” workshop on Friday night, June 6.

MSSAC will hold a business meeting on Saturday morning, followed by an afternoon workshop of “The Akashic Records.” Saturday evening Magician Ken Edwards will perform and there will be a themed karaoke and dance entertainment by Reggie Groff.

Following the regular Sunday morning service the Rev. Beth Carter will preside over the Memorial Flower Service to honor Spiritualists and family members that have died in the past year.
