1927 – 2014

LEWISTON — Kenneth A. Card, 87, of 129 South Ave., Lewiston died Saturday, May 31, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 8, 1927, in Auburn to Arnold and Regina Baumann Card.

He was inducted in the U.S Army on July 23, 1945, as a private first class and joined the 787th Military Police Battalion. He served in Germany and France and was honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1947. He received an Army of Occupation, Good Conduct and World War II Victory medals.

He was a 1948 graduate of Edward Little High School, where he played baseball and basketball. On Nov. 15, 1952, he married his true love, Theresa Clabby. They enjoyed 62 years together and raised nine children.

He worked for Bath Iron Works, Sears and Roebuck, Hall & Knight and Bates College.

He enjoyed gardening, belonged to the William J. Rogers Post 153 of the American Legion and was a lifelong member of the former St. Patrick’s Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Club and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was a caring and gentle soul and a loving “Papa Ken.”

Kenneth is survived by his wife; seven children, Kenneth J. Card and wife, Donna, Irene Martin and husband, Normand, Joesph Card and companion, Jane LaPointe, Edward Card, Margaret Doyon and husband, Paul, Regina Card and companion Gard Craw, and Wanda Cloutier and companion, Dave Hanscom; grandchildren, Clayton, Tyler and companion, Erin Burns, Caleb Card, Jacob and wife, Ginger, Nathan and wife, Marcia, Michael and wife Lesley Martin, Heather and husband Justin, Rouillard, Christopher and companion, Jessica Francis, Ashley and Emily Cloutier, and Justin Doyon and companion, Samantha Peczka; great-grandchildren, Kyzer Card, Ella, Trenton, Lucas, Wyatt, and Abigail Martin, Kendall Cloutier, Jared and Ava Francis, and soon-to-be baby girl Rouillard; cousins Loanne Morse, Emily Petty, John and Justin Crafts; sister-in-law, Gloria Card and her sons, Peter, Donald, Robert, and John Card, Mary Bird, Julia Terpstra, Patricia Kelley, and Ann Clabby; brother-in-law John and his wife, Connie; as well as several nieces and nephews from the Chandonnet, Landry, Terpstra, Kelly, and Clabby families.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Donald and Arnold Card; sons, William and Martin; and brother-in-laws, Francis and Bernard Clabby; and sister-in-laws, Margaret Chandonnett and Catherine Landry.
