LEWISTON — “The Poppy Fields of Maine” an art exhibit themed on addiction in Maine will be open from 5-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7, at 550 Lisbon St. Admission to the exihibit is free and open to the public.
Grace Street Services and The Open Studio Project in collaboration with artists from across Maine invite you to an art show that tells the story of one of Maine’s leading health care issues: addiction. Maine is among the states that consistently lead the nation in opiate addiction per capita, notes the exhibit organizers.
“The Wicked Witch of the West” in the literary and film classic, “The Wizard of Oz,” conjures up poppy fields in a last-ditch attempt to stop Dorothy and her group of wounded travelers from reaching the Emerald City. It is a fitting metaphor for opiate addiction and the landscape of despair that it creates while preventing people from finding home.
The unsettling, haunting art show is spread over 5,000-sq. ft. of renovated warehouse space.
