LEWISTON — Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends will hold its annual bottle drive from 8 a.m. to dusk Friday and Saturday, July 11 to 12, at Sports Trader, 707 Main St.

Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends is a volunteer, no-kill organization that strives to support abandoned cats that live a feral existence due to human abandonment.

Volunteers build and maintain outdoor shelters to help protect the cats through all kinds of weather. Some of these shelters are hundreds of feet into the woods. One colony is a mile and a half hike in.

These paths have to be cleared after each snowstorm and heavy rains.

Volunteers also bring food and water for the cats and stay with them while they feed so they can eat free of fear from predators.

Tommy’s also provides spaying, neutering, vaccinations and medicine for sick and injured animals.

While some cats come from too many generations wild to be tamed, Tommy’s provides foster care and rehabilitation with the goal of eventual adoption for those that can be domesticated.

Tommy’s receives no federal or state money, with the majority coming out of their own pockets and while relying on the generosity and kindness of the community.

Monetary donations can be sent to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends, P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME 04236.
