AUBURN (AP) — A World War II veteran is getting long-overdue medals on the 70th anniversary of the allied in invasion of France.

Sen. Susan Collins is using the D-Day anniversary to present the Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and others to Louis Roberge of Lewiston.

Collins helped him obtain the medals, which he’d never received. Roberge didn’t participate in the D-Day invasion. He fought in the South Philippines with the 96th Infantry Division.

The event was being held Friday at the American Legion Post in Auburn.
