AUBURN — A Livermore Falls man pleaded not guilty Friday to several charges, including kidnapping, in a domestic violence case in April.
Robert Valles, 48, of 118 Main St. was held at Androscoggin County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
Police said they were alerted April 23 to a woman screaming at Valles’ home. They found Vicki Farrington in the apartment crying, her eye bruised and her lip bleeding. She told police she had been held captive there by Valles for two days. She had duct tape wrapped around her head.
Valles told police only that he had argued with Farrington, according to police.
A 7-year-old boy in the apartment told police that Valles had argued with Farrington. He had thrown her to the floor and held her down. Valles had asked the boy to help “sharpen knives” and told him he planned to “kill her,” according to a police affidavit.
Valles later told police he had assaulted Farrington after he “flipped out.” He confirmed what the boy had told police, adding that he had threatened Farrington with a knife, telling her he was going to “cut her up and kill her,” the affidavit said.
He admitted to sharpening knives and putting duct tape over Farrington’s mouth to keep her from calling for help, police wrote in an affidavit. He said he refused to let Farrington leave his apartment, according to the document.
An Androscoggin County grand jury indicted Valles on a charge of kidnapping, a Class A felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison. He also was charged with domestic violence criminal threatening, a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.
He is facing six misdemeanor charges, including two related to domestic violence.
If Valles is released, he must have no contact with Farrington and the boy, a judge said.
