ALFRED (AP) — A homeless Maine man has been sentenced to 33 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally beating a woman whose nearly lifeless body was found in a Saco motel room.

Lebon Bruno pleaded guilty to murder in the November 2012 death of 55-year-old Elizabeth Williams on Thursday in York County Superior Court, about two weeks before his trial was scheduled to start.

The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1pY3oXO ) reported that under terms of a plea deal, a charge of gross sexual assault was dropped.

Prosecutors said the 41-year-old Bruno and Williams were friends and the victim was beaten after a night of drinking at the Sunrise Motel. Her body was found by housekeeping staff, and she died the next day at the hospital.

Bruno told police that someone else attacked Williams.
