LIVERMORE FALLS — Police said a Jay teenager who didn’t have a driver’s license was charged Sunday after he backed a trailer into a gas pump at Pike’s Corner Oasis on Route 133.
Firefighters put absorbent material down to soak up the gas that leaked on the ground after the 11:20 a.m. crash.
The 17-year-old boy was trying to back up a truck with a trailer hauling a lawn mower to pump gas into the mower, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.
Courtney Gordon, 19, of Sumner had been driving the 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck and trailer but couldn’t back it up close enough, so the teenage passenger decided to do it, he said.
Officer Dan Chabot issued the boy a summons on a misdemeanor charge of operating without a driver’s license, Steward said. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 18 in Juvenile Court in Lewiston.
The pump was shut down until it can be repaired, Steward said.
