RUMFORD — The June meeting of the OCEA-R (Oxford County Retired Educators) will be held at the United Methodist Church on Linell Street on Friday, June 13.

The fundraiser for the month is a “Cookie Walk.” Sign-in and socializing will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by a business meeting and a meal served by members of the church.

The program will be the annual remembrance of educators who have passed away during the last year. The publicity correspondent erroneously reported that this program was to be held during the May meeting. Attendance at the New Church meeting was good in spite of the mistake in reporting the schedule.

This June meeting will be the last meeting before the summer. Fall meetings will begin in September. The group could not meet in June on the usual third Friday of the month because the site was not available on that day.

The May meeting was held in Fryeburg on May 16. The program was presented by Diane Jones of the Fryeburg Historical Society. She spoke of the history of the building in which the historical society resides. It was constructed in 1832 and has been restored through much work and fundraising. It has many historical works available for research. Members were given a tour of the building and found the program both entertaining and informative.

Anyone in Oxford County who has retired from work as part of an educational system is invited to join the group. That includes people who worked outside Oxford County but who now live here. It also includes anyone who has worked for a school system in any capacity, such as custodians, librarians, secretaries, bus drivers and others who have contributed to the educational process.
